With the success of her hit single “Call Me Maybe” and her two follow-up singles “Good Time” featuring Adam Young from Owl City, and “This Kiss,” Carly Rae Jepsen has become a new face in the world of music.

Jepsen’s new album “Kiss” is upbeat and has songs that make a person want to get up and dance. The album’s opening track, “Tiny Little Bows,” has a disco feel and some funky bass lines. “Turn Me Up” is a high energy song that contains electronic elements while showing Jepsen’s strong singing in the quieter pieces of the song. The song “Your Heart Is A Muscle” shows a softer side of the album with the calm feel of the piano keys and Jepsen’s whispering voice. “Almost Said It” is a beautiful and powerful acoustic ballad which is included in the deluxe edition of the album along with “Your Heart Is A Muscle.”

“North” is a new album released by Matchbox Twenty. Their fourth studio album has finally come five years after the release of their third album in 2007. The single “She’s So Mean” is a catchy song that gets a person humming to the rhythm after just listening to it a few times. “English Town” starts off at a slow tempo, but picks up as the song gets to the chorus. The last song on the regular album, “Sleeping at the Wheel,” is a slow tempo song and sums up the album as it ends.

Fiona Apple is back after seven years. With her smooth voice and a mix of jazz and rock, her new album, “The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do,” subsequently shortened as “The Idler Wheel…”, has pianos, jazz-tinged drums, and Apple’s haunting yet beautiful voice. “Daredevil” makes a fitting title for a song with such a strong sense of fighting, and Apple’s start to stop piano leads the battle. The irony of the song is that it is actually Apple’s plea for protection against herself. “Anything We Want” is a big mood shift in the album as it is more of a pick-me-up song with Apple’s lightly placed references to childhood.
