At 7:00 p.m. on Monday night, the Mavericks faced off and lost 8-7 against the black and gold Arapahoe Warriors from Centennial, Colorado.

The Warriors are ranked 5th in the Colorado Class 5A Lacrosse rankings, and are currently undefeated. The Mavericks are ranked 6th in the San Diego Open Lacrosse Standings and 2nd in the Avocado West Lacrosse Standings, and have a record of 2 wins and 3 losses.

The first and only goal in the first quarter came from the Warriors with seven minutes. In the second quarter, the Warriors scored with 10 minutes left, but Maverick player Jason Mummau (#9) came back and scored to make the game 2-1. Roughly a minute after the Mavs scored their first goal, Arapahoe scored again, making the score 3-1 at the end of the second quarter.

Fired up about the other team winning, Mavericks Dino Renna (#7) scored once and Brandon Steidley (#6) scored twice. Unfortunately, the black and gold scored too, making the score 4-4. After halftime, the guest team went on to score twice more in the third quarter. In the fourth and final quarter, Steidley, Patrick Dahl (#18), and Mummau scored three more times, and the score was tied 7-7. The crowd was trembling with excitement, feet stomping the ground and voices screaming and yelling for another goal to win the game.

Many tackles later, with 50 seconds left, the Warriors pulled ahead, shot and scored another goal. The green, gold and blue tried desperately for the rest of the game to score, but time was against them. Mavericks lost the game, 8-7.

Assistant coach Taylor Graves said about the game: “I think they played really hard. It’s a tough loss, but that’s a really tough team out there. We have a lot to work on still. We came out a little flat against our opponent last week, and we just wanted to bring the intensity. Last week was definitely not as good as this week, but still, two losses is still hard.”
