Players from both teams race against the clock during an intense Lacrosse game on March 23rd, 2015.

On Monday March 23rd, the Mavericks boy’s lacrosse team took on the Arapahoe High School Warriors. The Warriors entered the game as the top ranked team in Colorado, so it was presumed that the slumping Mavs would be blown out in this game. However, that was not exactly the case.

This was a fight until the final seconds of the game. AHS scored the eventual game winning goal with 49 seconds left. With such little time left to take an 8-7 lead, the Mavericks could not capitalize on the opportunity. There were several storylines in this game for the Mavs. The offense had a solid showing with goals from attackmen Jason Mummau and Jack McKeon, and a hat-trick from midfielder and Towson Commit, Jake Maclean. The defense was a bit shaky at times but essentially did enough to score the win. The main storyline in this contest was the officiating. The referees took several goals away from La Costa Canyon on a couple of questionable calls that would have given the Mavericks the lead.

When Senior attack-man Eric Phillips was asked to weigh in on the situation he said, “I mean we could have played better, but our intensity was up, and we’re gonna go get ‘em next game. The refs cost us that one.”

LCC fell to 3-3 on the season with this loss, but they’re looking to bounce back in the next week with games against Palos Verdes, Foothill, and San Marcos.
