Comedy Sportz members Hayden Sproul and Kyle Whatnall made for excellent hosts to our first pep rally in nearly seven years.

On September 18th, 2015, La Costa Canyon had its first pep rally in nearly seven years, which was held in the LCC gym during fourth period. The assembly involved many fun activities including performances from Comedy Sportz and the LCC Dance Team, a dramatic fashion show to introduce Spirit Week, a spontaneous teacher dance-off, and much more. With music and games, all grade levels seemed to enjoy the event quite a bit.

Junior Jacklyn Hannemann thought the fashion show was the crowd favorite.

“It was really funny, and that was the best part,” Hannemann said, with a big smile on her face. “I liked seeing my ASL teacher in [the show].”

The fashion show did seem to be a favorite among the crowd. It involved many of the students’ peers wearing unique and funny outfits to represent how to dress during spirit week.

“The fashion show was so entertaining. They had a few technical problems, like the mics,” junior Alex LeMons said. “But other than that, I think the school did a good job. They really got everyone hyped.”

The microphones did have some issues. Luckily, the presenters made it through just fine. This was the first rally in about seven years, so of course there would be some problems and some complaints among the students.

“I think the gym needed to be colder because it was pretty warm in here, but it was fun,” said junior Nathan Burciaj. “I liked the overall environment, it was very happy and positive.”

Overall, the pep rally was a success for the school, students, and teachers. Hopefully the school will have more of these events in the future, because the event had a positive outcome of increased school unity.

“It was really great to have the school spirit back! It was a lot of fun,” said junior Lannie Tran.
