The annual “Survivor Week” Games at LCC began in the week leading up to the infamous beach bowl, which is a football game  between two heated rivals, the La Costa Canyon Mavericks and the Torrey Pines Falcons.

“About 20 females and 20 males compete throughout lunch, we narrow it down to 1 male and 1 female who competes against the 2 students from Torrey Pines” ASB teacher Casey Rector said.

The two representatives for La Costa Canyon successfully defeated the Torrey Pines representatives. The male representative was Pierce Ianniciello and the female representative was Ella Boyce.

“I was hesitant at first but my peers inspired me to do it, it ended up being a lot of fun” senior Ella Boyce said. “On the final day we were down to the final 8 contestants, it was really exciting, the girl I played against was my best friend from Torrey Pines and she and I are going to the same college.”

ASB creates the games that are played throughout lunch during the week,  these  games and obstacles are based off the television show “Survivor”.

“There was lots of different games that involved accuracy such as throwing darts into a hula hoop, mental challenges like word scramble, physical challenges such as running, and eating challenges”. Senior Ella Boyce said

“We make up a bunch of obstacle courses, we look up games that the actual Survivor played, ASB comes up with the games, the kids get really into it and the seniors look forward to competing every year” Rector said.

Although these games are entertaining for all students, the Survivor Week games are exclusive to the seniors for them to celebrate their last experience of their high school crosstown rivalry.

“[Seniors] look forward to representing their class when competing” Rector said.

Survivor Week started when La Costa Canyon opened in 1996. A big reason why the seniors are looking forward to competing every year is to continue the rivalry for years to come.
